Meet Your Therapist
Asya M. Little, MA, NCC, LCMHCA, TCTSY-F
Welcome to A.M.L. Counseling & Wellness!
I'm Asya M. Little, a Black woman therapist and the owner of A.M.L. Counseling & Wellness, PLLC. I provide virtual counseling to teens and adults (16+) throughout North Carolina, with a particular passion for supporting women and people of color navigating identity, self-esteem, anxiety, perfectionism, grief, trauma, relationships, and life transitions.
One of the things I've noticed, both personally and professionally, is how easy it is to spend our lives trying to get everything “right.” That has been especially true for me as a Black woman.
The right decision. The right career. The right relationship. The right timeline. The right version of ourselves.
Many of us grow up believing there's a formula for building a meaningful life. We work hard, meet expectations, take care of others, and keep pushing forward, hoping that if we do everything we're supposed to do, confidence, peace, and fulfillment will eventually follow.
Then one day, we realize we've become so focused on who we thought we were supposed to be that we've stopped asking ourselves who we actually are.
That's the work I love.
As a therapist, I don't believe my job is to tell you what to do or decide what's best for your life. I'm here to help you question the expectations you've been carrying, understand what's shaping your experiences, and develop greater confidence in making decisions for yourself.
My approach is conversational, collaborative, and practical. I value honest conversations, thoughtful questions, and making room for both the emotional and logical sides of what you're experiencing. Some sessions may involve exploring things you've never quite put into words, while others may focus on challenging familiar patterns or figuring out how to handle something happening in your life right now.
I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, grief counseling, and Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). Rather than expecting one approach to work for everyone, I consider your experiences, goals, and what feels useful to you.
I'm a North Carolina native and proud Wake Forest alumna and Double Deac (BA '22, MA '24'), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina.
Outside of the therapy room, I'm a yogi, dog mama, and lifelong learner. I have my own interests, goals, and experiences that continue to shape how I understand myself and the world around me.
I believe growth doesn't always mean becoming someone different.
Sometimes it means getting to know yourself well enough to decide who you want to be.
